Statements about Roberto Valcarcel

The works of Valcarcel range from digital photographs to conceptual interventions. This diversity is deliberate on the artist’s part. He defines his own oeuvre as radically eclectic and strongly defies preset ideas established by the market, the art critics, the gallerists and the editors. He admonishes the audience that neither the title of a work, nor its price, least its review can replace a direct appreciation and subjective interpretation of a work of art. More than inviting, he challenges the viewer not to use these gimmicks, but confront the oeuvre in solitude, trusting his senses, that he may even find a sense of humour in the works conveyed.
